satyapriya @ : Introducing myself
Hope you don't mind me joining this group. I'm a belly dancer from Down Under. I'm also on the fringes of fandom(gafiated some years ago, but still retain some contact through friends, and attend the very occasional con). I teach belly dance at local community centres.
I'm a writer of science fiction, fantasy, poetry, and new age articles.
Yours in shimmies,

badriyaz @ : Belly dancing at Arisia!
Anybody going to Arisia
this weekend? There will be a bunch o' dancers performing from 4-5pm on Saturday, dancing in a variety of styles. I'm doing some gothic stuff (dancing with my Riddick knives ;-) , perhaps somebody here is also performing? Anyway, if you're at the con, stop by and say hi!edited to add
: gee, I suppose I should mention Arisia is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts :-)
havocthecat @ : Capricon?
Is anyone planning to attend Capricon
in Arlington Heights, Illinois? It runs 2/8 - 2/11, and right now, the registration fee is $40.00. (It goes up to $70.00 after 1/15.)
I've been thinking about it, and so I figured I'd see if anyone else here was going before I decide if I'm going to cough up the cash to head out there. (I don't actually know any of you, I know, though I may have seen some of you at Chicago-area haflas.
And yet, I'm all for organizing an informal gathering.
ETA: I've been told that Luci Ayyat will be maybe throw a SBOF room party. Which, yay!Tags: scifi cons

anaughtykitten @ : Exciting news for dancers @ Dragon*Con!
This is from the DC_DrumCircle Yahoo group...http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DC_DrumCircle/message/263I talked with the director of the Silk Road Track this evening. D*C
has decided that the Drum Circle and Drum Circle related panels can
be included in the Silk Road Track so we will have a place for
classes and performances!!!
I don't have the final schedule but we are planning to have
the "Drum Circle Rhythms & Etiquette" class before the Friday drum
circle, a "Belly Dance Class" Sunday and Monday mornings and we will
be able to have "Dancing the Silk Road" shows before the Saturday
and Sunday drum circles.
Don't forget the costume panel Friday afternoon and parade Saturday
The Silk Road track will also have Asian folk dancing as well. I'm
I'll keep everyone updated as I get more info.
Because this is a very recent decision, there wasn't any mention of it in the D*C brochure I just got in my mail. I thought some of y'all might be interested =)
Also, if you do the yahoo thing, please come join us at the Yahoo group. We're still finalizing plans for the float, and I imagine Kira will be looking for performers for the show.
Hope to see you all there...

philady @ : CONvergence - Bloomington, MN
To any of you attending CONvergence this weekend:
I noticed nobody's given the room party a plug yet, so I'll say it: HEY! Check out the "Midnight at the Oasis" room party in room 104 (first floor cabanas, by the pool). There will be half hour bellydance shows at the top of the hour, every hour, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday night. (And while you're there, give props to your wonderful hostesses, Klee and Michelle!)nekhochan
and I will be doing a half hour set in the "Midnight at the Oasis" room party at midnight on Friday night (okay, so technically that'd be 11:59 Friday night / 12:01 Saturday morning). Our set will feature some Arabic pop, as well as some special surprises, especially for any Dementia music fans out there. ~_^ (And no worries; while we will be geeky, we will not be sporting the Starfleet uniforms ^_^)
Hope to see you there!
